Walky

This is a personal project I designed and built for remote workers that provided a long list of interesting interaction and technical challenges.

Channel View

In a typical video chat flow, a user selects the caller, dials, and waits. This model breaks down when you're a remote worker and you need the equivalent of tapping a co-worker on the shoulder.

Chat View

With Walky, you tap the broadcast button and other users in your channel can instantly see and hear you. With a tap of their button, they can join in, resulting fluid, free-form group conversations.

Mobile Concepts

I took Walky from zero to a fully featured app in less than 90 days when it was featured on Product Hunt. I used a combination of AngularJS, Firebase, Heroku, and a custom developed WebRTC Peer Connection library to make it happen. One of the challenges was making choices based on cost. This particular version of Walky had to be retired for reasons outside of my control. The concept is still near and dear to my heart and it's one I hope to revisit in the future.
